What’s new at Frequency Vintage: the oops addition

Standard

Okay, first I have to say, I did something bad.  I deleted all my illustrations that I have done for this blog.  They are gone forever =(.  Just letting you know if you were wondering why there are a ton of image gaps going back from this post.

So now the positive: Although I knew better, I wasn’t backing up images.  This is just a reminder of the importance of doing so.

LESSON OF THE WEEK:  BACKUP YOUR INFO!

Now onto the fun stuff:

Must Have Monday: Treggings

Standard

I posted awhile ago about how crazy women wear leggings as pants made me.  And then I heard from a friend (she saw them while visiting the UK) that they started to make these things called treggings (trousers + leggings.)  I instantly thought “nope.”  No way, these still don’t count as pants.

BUT, then it happened, I saw them in person and got a pair myself at H&M well 2.  (They seem very hard to find except in the UK and UK online shops, so I was surprised and delighted)  In my book, they count as pants and can be warn with a top that doesn’t cover the bootay.  And, they come in all sorts of colors and styles.

MUST HAVE MONDAY: Treggings!

$50 & Below Favorites/ones that I could find online:

$14.99 Delia’s

$34.95 New Look

I pride myself in offering my readers many options for online shopping, but this trend seems to be a bit hard to find.  Anyone got a good source?  I got an orange and a royal blue pair from H&M so the funky colors are out there.  Share your secrets if you have any, please.

Also, I won’t avoid the elephant in the room.  Many still qualify these treggings as leggings (not me).  So let’s put a vote out there to see where we stand on this: fashion oo la la or faux pas.

And while we are at it, anymore thoughts on leggings?

Must Have Monday: Vintage Bags to Carry your Port/Resume

Standard

I went out to dinner with a friend this weekend who had the cutest vintage coach handbag that could perfectly fit an 8.5 x 11 without screaming “I’m on my way to an interview!!!” and went great with her hipster bar/dinner look.

I am all about having multi-functional pieces and must admit, this is one of the staples I am missing, a day bag that doubles as a briefcase.  I hate the looks of an actual brief case as much as carrying an almost big enough bag with papers sticking out the top.

So this MUST HAVE MONDAY is for all you chic chica’s on the job prowl.  And taking the tip from my friend, to keep it professional, it’s got to well made.  Best way to accomplish that and keep your budget in check is to go vintage.  Make sure to snatch these up, they don’t make them like this any more.  Carry your Port/Resume in a non-conventional way for $50 and Below:

$44.99 Frequency Vintage

14″x21″  Easy to slide in an 8.5″ x 11″ binder with room to spare.

$50 OmniaWears

Gorgeous bag 9.5″ x 11.5″.  Interior departments designed to slip your paper work.

$49.95 PoisonPuddingFaire

A bit more tradition, but the leather lining the suede adds a retro touch that add a little something extra to the simple style.  11″ x 16″

$45 Arstilo

Clean, chic, simple, tasteful.  Dress it up, dress it down.  Flat out a great, extremely versatile vintage bag.  10″ x 16″

What’s your interview to going out secret?

Beat the brrrrreeze

Standard

After two days of “serious” postings, I need a fashion fix.

I really like my new winter coat, but almost didn’t buy it because it lacks a hood.  I’ve had a hooded coat forever so was always able to skip the hat and rest the hood ever so gently on my perfect braid, leaving my ears warm and no hair out of place.  Wearing the new coat today, naked ears, waiting for the El that seemed to never come, I would worn a trash bag on my head to cut the wind.  brrrrrr.

Now that I have regained feeling in my ears,  lets take a look at some chic option that will keep out the chill and won’t undo the do for $50 and below:

$25.99 Michael Kors

$21.82 ASOS

$24.00 Youleena Boutique

 $35.00 a Cats Nest

Okay, I admit it, the headbands may take some careful placement to avoid a day long hair disaster, but they’re so cute and worth making style choices to fit the piece!

How do you stay warm and “cool” in the winter?

 What I learned about fur

 $75 Frequency Vintage

I love this coat.  Just like the leather one at the top, if it was my size, you wouldn’t be seeing it here.  It is so soft, love the big collar, and the lining is beautiful.  I think dressing up a pair of jeans with this would be a great modern twist on a classic look.

It looks and feels real, the lining is luxurious, but!….the label tells it all.  It’s not marked Faux Fur, in fact it says clean by Fur Coat methods.  The give away is actually the label: Mincara.  In fact all Mincara, Intrique, Tissavel, Borgana, Glenoit and Grandella(commonly seen vintage labels) coats are faux, whether denoted on the label or not.  Some vintage sellers don’t take the extra step to research, so the more you know, the better chance of getting a really great piece, faux or fur.

Real does not always mean better.  Seriously, the Mincara coat above is awesome.  Great vintage shape, feel, warmth, look, and beautifully lined.  I have seen real pieces that are just falling apart with a much higher price tag.  So if you are in the market for a fur, maybe faux is the way to go.
